Recently, I got a question pop up to my head whether we as children will eventually do same career as our father's / mother's. So, I googled it and found out that facebook researchers did some analysis from their huge members' data (you can read their article and data here : https://research.facebook.com/blog/do-jobs-run-in-families-/).
From their research, they found out that people more likely to choose same as their parents' occupation compare to others whom their parents aren't do that occupation. Confused?? It means that if your parents are doctors, you more likely would be a doctor compare to your friend whom parents are lawyer.
Why?
Because we, humans, are "built" by world around us. When we were kids, our minds were like a blank page, and as we grow we learn new things. Where did we learn it from? You know the answer, yes, it was from our parents (including our kindergarden and school teachers, but their influence will be very small) and our family's group (parents' friends, colleagues).
So, if your parents are doctors, their conversation topic will more likely about medical problems. Their friends will be more likely doctors, and what are they talking about? It will be medical problems again over and over.
Other than that, your parents' connections will help you get a job, easier to get recommendations and supports. Also, a lot of opportunities will be opened by this very connections (chance to study on the best medical institutions / the best doctors, as one example).
Last, on my opinion is very crucial to why people choose their career. "SOCIETY VALUE". I called it society value, it is what our society give high value of. Every country have their own value.
For example, being an Acrobat. On my country where I live, there is no value being an acrobat. Almost no jobs that need acrobatic skills. But it is different on other country like China. They have a lot of Acrobatic Performances on various tourist attractions across its country. That means acrobat value is higher on China than on my country.
